Libraries

The Morgantown Public Library is the main public library in Monongalia County. The County system has three branches that include the Clay-Battelle Public Library, the Cheat Area Public Library, and the Clay Battelle Public Library. The Morgantown Public Library and its branches have approximately 133,500 volumes available. The system has 100 newspaper and magazine subscriptions, plus an extensive collection of audio-cassettes, CDs, and videos. The library system also offers a wide variety of free day and evening programs. One library card can be used throughout the entire system. Free public access to Internet terminals with word processing capability are located on the reference floor.

The West Virginia University Library is the largest and best library system in the state. The University libraries include nine facilities containing 1.7 million volumes and 2 million microforms and microfilms. The ten-floor Wise Library houses the majority of the University’s collections. Colson Hall, located across the street from the Wise Library, contains the West Virginia Collection, the Audio-Visual Library and the reserve book collection. The Evansdale Library houses books and other collections for subjects taught on the Evansdale Campus. Additionally, there are separate libraries for mathematics, music, the physical sciences, College of Law, and the Health Sciences Center. Application for a borrower’s card may be obtained from the circulation desk at the Wise Library.
