Bonnie’s Bus
In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, KLM Properties wants to shine a light on services in our state that keep women healthy. One organization that is very important is Bonnie’s Bus through the WVU Cancer Institute. Bonnie’s Bus is a mobile mammography unit that travels across West Virginia, offering breast cancer screenings in a comfortable, convenient environment.
Bonnie’s Bus began in 2009 created in honor of Bonnie Wells Wilson the mother of Jo Statler, who succumbed to breast cancer in a remote area of the state with no access to screening mammography. Bonnie’s Bus has a mission to provide breast cancer screenings to women in West Virginia, especially to those in remote areas of the state with little to no access to screening mammography.
Since Bonnie’s Bus journey began, it has provided over 17,900 mammograms and detected at least 100 cases of breast cancer. The bus serves women who qualify for West Virginia and Cervical Cancer Screening Program. Grant funds and donations are available to pay for women without coverage so no women over the age of 40 is never turned away.
